Hyperbaric bed, England, 1950-1970
- maker:
- Oxygenaire Limited
Vickers Hyperbaric bed designed for patients who cannot lie flat for long periods. The pressure bed can be tilted head up or head down. Approved to 15PSIG model.
Hyperbaric bed systems were for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment (HBOT). This involves the medical use of oxygen at higher concentrations than found in the air outside the enclosed chamber.
HBOT has a number of clinical applications. For example, patients may require an oxygen-rich environment to help wounds heal. Other uses include cases of carbon monoxide poisoning and decompression sickness. Patients could watch television, listen to the radio and communicate via loudspeaker or telephone type handset while using the bed system.
