One set of stickers reads “One AIDS death every day”, another “One AIDS death every half an hour”, another “One AIDS death every minute”, showing the growing numbers of people with and dying from AIDS. The stickers containing the pink triangle were made by ACT UP, an American AIDS awareness charity. The pink triangle was chosen as this was the symbol used by the Nazi regime during the Second World War to label and identify homosexuals. AIDS awareness was first aimed at homosexuals but now includes heterosexuals as well. AIDS was first diagnosed in 1981 in the United States.
