0.9% Sodium Chloride & 5% Glucose, intravenous infusion liquid in plastic packaging, by Baxter Healthcare Ltd, 1996.
Intravenous drips are instantly recognisable pieces of medical equipment. The clear liquid in this example contains 0.9% sodium chloride and 5% glucose. It rehydrates hospital patients and also re-establishes the correct balance of salts and sugars in the blood, known as electrolytes. These can be depleted due to excessive diarrhoea or sickness, or blood loss. The solution is in a sterile plastic wrapping to avoid introducing outside bacteria or infections. This solution was made by Baxter Healthcare Limited.
