Coin, cupro-nickel alloy, £5 denomination, Millennium Crown issued by the Royal Mint 1999 to commemorate the Millennium 2000. Featuring the British Isles with a pair of clock hands pivoted on the meridian at Greenwich, set at 1200. Dates 1999 and 2000 either side; the traditional beaded coin outer edges representing minutes and hours of a clock face; incuse edge inscription What's past is prologue [Shakespeare, Tempest]. Portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley, 1998, represented on obverse. Designed by Jeffery Matthews, modelled by engraver Robert Evans. 38.61mm diameter, 28.28gms weight. Quality Brilliant Uncirculated. Set into foldered booklet with text on GMT, in slipcase, 17.2x12.2cm.
