Model (scale 1:10) of the mechanism of Edmund Cartwright's steam engine

This model shows Edmund Cartwright's mechanism for converting the reciprocating motion of the piston into rotary motion. The engine itself presented several exceptional features (see inv. 1897-125), but the only other one of these followed in this model is that the valve motion controlling steam input into the cylinder is directly derived from that of the piston by a tappet action.
