model of Chandler's patent 1886-8 high speed "Silent" Engine, Bumsted & Chandler, Wednesfield, Staffordshire, made in 1902 . Sectioned through cylinders valves and crank case.

This represents a single-acting, inverted, two-stage expansionsteam engine for directly driving a large fan for mine ventilation, or other purposes. The engine was patented by Mr. N. Chandler in 1886-8, and subsequently improved.
