Frame with Plug Rod Guide
Frame (6 pieces bolted together) with plug rod guide and crankshaft bearings complete, with crankshaft with spur pinion and feed pump pin staked on
Early high pressure steam engine and feed water heater of Trevithick type, colloquially referred to as the Ingestre engine, 1840-50 but quite possibly earlier.
This engine was employed for general purposes at a salt works at Ingestre, near Stafford, for upwards of half a century; it was disused since 1882, when the works were closed down. It is said to have been removed thither from Brereton, near Rugeley, where it had been used in winding from a coal pit. Nothing is known as to the maker of the engine, but it exhibits several features that were peculiar to the designs of Richard Trevithick, the pioneer in the adoption of high-pressure steam, some of whose engines are known to have been constructed at Bridgnorth about 1815.
