For the purposes of his steam carriage Sir Goldsworthy Gurney patented, in 1825, a water-tube boiler which he modified subsequently, as shown, for stationary use. This boiler was constructed in 1826 at his manufactory at Regent's Basin. It was tested there in 1827 by Mr. Simon Goodrich on behalf of the Navy Office, but his report was unfavourable.
