Model (scale 1:16) of Brunton's patent 1819-20 revolving grate and mechanical stoker for brewing copper on wooden base

This model illustrates the revolving grate mechanical stoker patented by William Brunton in 1819-20; it was the first successful one of its kind and was somewhat widely adopted. In this instance the apparatus is applied to a brewing copper, set with a wheel draught – that is, the hot fire gases pursue a circular route around the bottom of the boiler before departing via the chimney.
