This is a liquid fuel burner, patented by JJ Kermode in 1894 and 1898, in which the oil is partially vaporised and sprayed by means of hot air, instead of by steam as in the Holden and other burners. The loss of water in the form of steam is to be avoided in marine work [where fresh water is created from salt water by condensing gear], besides hot air is also claimed to be more efficient than steam.
