"Gretna" Oil Burner, steam or compressed air operated, in section

This is of the whirling spray type, intended to be used burning oil in boilers for raising steam. The supply of oil (coloured red) is brought through the axis of what is in effect a conical plug by turning which to the right or left the supply can be adjusted or cut off. The steam or compressed air (coloured light blue) for combustion is supplied to an annular space around the plug, and is directed by tangential holes to the coned outer end of the plug.
