2 Bourdon Pressure Gauges

The form of pressure gauge shown was introduced in 1849 by Mons. E. Bourdon, who discovered the action upon which it relies while attempting to remove, by the application of internal pressure, the flattening caused in a pipe by bending it into a coil. He noticed that as the pressure was applied the pipe slightly straightened, and by fitting the free end with a pointer, found that reliable readings of the pressure were thus obtainable.
