This is a form of trap for removing from steam any water or solid matter mechanically carried along from the boiler or steam pipes, which might provce dangeros if it were to find its way inside a working steam engine. It consists of a circular vessel, closed with a removable cover, and divided into two chambers by a central diaphragm, which is perforated and covered with a metal gauze screen. The steam enters the vessel tangentially, then passes through the screen and onwards to the engine, the screen intercepting any solid matter, whilst a recess around the screen collects the water and delivers it to a drain pipe.
