Early high pressure steam engine and feed water heater of Trevithick type, colloquially referred to as the Ingestre engine, 1840-50 but quite possibly earlier.
Early high pressure steam engine and feed water heater of the Trevithick type, colloquially referred to as the Ingestre engine, as it was used at Ingestre, Staffordshire. Richard Trevithick pioneered the use of steam at higher pressures than had previously been employed. He licenced the use of his design to a range of manufacturers – this is a later example of the type, with the cylinder separate from the boiler and with an independent frame.
