Thematic Apperception Test, projective test devised by Christiana Morgan and Henry Murray 1935, consisting of ten ambiguous picture cards (incomplete); used by the Institute of Education, University of Liverpool, c.1960-1990.
Do you see a burglar escaping or a man opening the window to a bright new day? The person taking this Thematic Apperception Test studies pictures and invents a story about each one. Each picture is deliberately ambiguous.
Psychologists Christiana Morgan and Henry Murray devised the test in 1935. It has been described as a method for stimulating, recording and analysing fantasy. It was used by the Institute of Education, University of Liverpool, between 1960 and 1990.
