Model of the 1956 designed Bluebird CN7 racing car
- maker:
- Cherilea UK Limited
Model (Scale 1:25, approx.) of the 1956 designed Bluebird CN7 racing car, by Cherilea UK Limited, Kirkham, Lancashire, England, 1960. The actual Bluebird car was made for an attempt on the World Land Speed Record in 1960. The car was driven by Donald Campbell.
Between 1955 and 1964, Campbell set seven world speed records on both land and water. When he attempted the land speed record in 1960, Campbell had a serious crash and the car had to be completely rebuilt. After some small changes to make the car more stable, Campbell successfully used the Bluebird CN7 racing car in 1964 to set a new land speed record of 403 mph. The car was powered by a gas turbine engine, similar to those used in planes. Campbell’s record was the last to be set with this type of car, as after this the rules changed to allow records set by cars powered by jet engines. Model cars have been being made for as long as cars have, representing both everyday cars and those which achieve spectacular feats like this one.
