This equipment was used for maintaining the Greenwich Time Service at the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux from about 1965 to 1990. It also provided the six pips time signal which was broadcast by the BBC. The frequency standard was provided by the Observatory's Hewlett-Packard caesium beam atomic clocks and manipulated in this equipment to produce the desired output. In 1990 it was replaced by a time service obtained from radio navigation systems.
