Box of X-ray plates.

X-ray plates are used to develop X-rays onto. These German examples in a sealed cardboard box were part of a German First World War X-ray kit. Once X-rays had been discovered in 1895, physicians and surgeons were keen to use them to see inside the body without resorting to surgery. The plates are shown here with a film holder (A639408 Pt10).
