This is the cloud chamber with which Rocester and Butler of the University of Manchester obtained the conclusive cloud chamber evidence for the existence of new unstable elementary particles in 1947.

The cloud chamber was operated at a mountain altitude of 2900m on the French Pyrenees at the Observatoire du Pic-du-Midi.
