Cabinet of Chinese District Magistrate's Standard Scales & Weights, 18th-19th century, comprising:- wood cabinet, 14 3/4"x6 3/4"x5 1/4" high, metal bound, with 2 drawers, mounting:- 1 equal-armed balance, 11.4" steel beam, box-ends, brass pans, cord supports, gallows suspension, engraved Chinese characters on beam. Drawers contain:- set of 16 brass weights, knuckle shaped, value 10 "Taels" to 2 "Mace". Set of 17 bone weights, flat, rectangular, value 1 "Mace" to 1 "Cash" and numerous examples of good and bad metal cash (round flat discs with square central hole) used in trade both as weights and token coinage
