Book damaged in the Skopje earthquake of 26 July 1963
The Macedonian city of Skopje was devastated by a major earthquake on the morning of 26th July, 1963. 80% of the city's buildings were destroyed and over 1000 people were killed. Today the city has been rebuilt, but the damaged railway station was left as a memorial, with its clock frozen at 5.17, the time the tremor occurred.
