Brass pillar-frame sextant.
Anodized brass sextant, double-frame bridge (24 straight-bars) type, with polished brass limb and wooden handle in mahogany keystone shaped case, by Edward Troughton, Fleet Street, City of London, England 1810-1820. Consists of inlaid 125° silver scale (-5° to 144°) with 10' divisions, silver vernier scale (10") two sets of filter shades (3 & 3, red & green) and reading magnifier on a swivel arm (85mm). Fitted with threaded telescope bracket with collimation correction for two telescopes, 83mm (star finder) and 73mm (both erect images) and sighting tube (133 mm – from other sextant). Case contains trade card in lid for George Lee, at The Hard and at 3 Palmerston Road, Southsea, certificate of examination at Kew Observatory, December 1887, and manuscript list of contents.
