Pattern no.182 Mod. Boat's compass
This type of Boat's Compass and all metal binnacle came into use in the Royal Navy during the Great War (1914-18) and was afterwards adopted as the standard type of Boats' Compass, superseding Pattern 20 (inventory number 1933-488).
It is a liquid compass fitted with an expansion chamber of the Hammersley type at the base of the bowl.
