Bronze Exchequer Standard Winchester Bushel volume Measure, one of a series issued to 60 cities in England during the reign of Henry VII between 1497 and 1509.
Winchester bushel volume measure made between 1497-1509 at the command of Henry VII, King of England (1485-1509) as primary standard for England. Copies of these Exchequer standards were issued to boroughs throughout England to encourage and enforce fair trade in commerce. The standard was not a success and was superseded by a more accurate length standard produced during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I around 1588.
