Brass Standard one-eighth Gallon [pint] volume measure for the United States of America. Based on the adopted English Winchester standard for dry goods which was superseded in Britain by Imperial Measure in 1826. One of a set of measures presented by the Federal Government to the Standards Department of the British Board of Trade in 1842.
