Cast of a bronze figure of a Lioness; one of a set of such weights found in the gateway of a Palace at Nimrud, the ancient Calah, the capital of Assyria during the 9th and 8th centuries BC. Inscription reads:- Left side:- 11 (= 2), Back:- Palace of Shalmaneser, King of the lands, 2 monors, royal; Right side:- 2 minors, royal. Actual weight 4lbs, 4ozs, 2drs.
