Crawler tractor, Caterpillar RD8 (8018) 130 H.P. 1945, with Le Tourneau cable operated bulldozer gear

The RD8 Caterpillar crawler was designed in the 1930s and was the precursor to the popular D8 tractor which was used widely within the earthmoving industry. This tractor was used in construction of the M1 motorway in England.

The tractor has a Le Tourneau cable-operated bulldozer gear attachment. Robert Gilmour LeTourneau was an American contractor who built the first powered scraper in the 1920s. This revolutionised the earthmoving and construction industry. Later, larger capacity scraper units were constructed.
