12 yd scraper, Le Tourneau "Carryall" 1945-50

The Carryall scraper was designed by Robert G. Le Tourneau (1991-1969) in the early 1930s. It revolutionised the earthmoving industry as it was a far more efficient machine than earlier scrapers. The Carryall brought together several innovations: cable control, positive ejection, rubber tyres, all-welded construction and the apron which was a cable actuated panel that prevented the load being lost during transport. Importantly, the operator could now control all scraper functions from the tractor seat, and the scraper capacity could increase as the load was fully contained and lifted off the ground on rubber tyres.

This scraper was used in the construction of the M1 motorway in Britain and would have been towed by a crawler tractor.
