Ivory gunner's rule, four-fold, with 24 inch scale and tables of artillery information

Ballistics is another area which gave impetus to physics and mathematics. The ivory rule is in four parts, with one face being a plain ruler of two feet length. The other faces contain a large quantity of numerical information relating to artillery practice: length and weight of brass guns and of iron guns including the carronade, the amount of gunpowder required for various purposes, measurements of mortars and howitzers, small arms, and sizes of shot and bores of guns.
