Course and distance calculator (German)
Similar in principle to the current corrector, the Dreieckrechner Baumuster was a popular instrument with Luftwaffe pilots in the Second World War. Manufactured from 1937, it was developed by Siegfried Knemeyer to solve ‘wind triangle’ problems, when wind velocity affects the velocity of an aircraft, causing drift. The angle of correction of the plane’s course to remain on target could be found. It was the first hand-held flight computer.
