Model of Pruteen Plant Fermenter Area

Model of Pruteen Plant Fermenter area, one of two parts. Labelled "G1 - Fermenter area". This is the bottom half of the fermenter area.

More

This is an engineering model of one of the world’s largest ever fermenters, which stood at 60 meters tall. The fermenter was built by Imperial Chemical Industries in a hugely ambitious venture to make protein by fermenting microbes. Pruteen was a technical success, but a commercial failure. The technology was instead adapted to make vegetarian protein for humans – ‘Quorn’.
