DIGI-COMP 1 Model 101. First plastic operational computer. (Educational)
This plastic computer was a popular children’s toy when it was first released in the 1960s. It taught children the basic logic of computer programming, such as binary numbers and how to debug a programme that didn’t work as expected. The first challenge was to construct the plastic computer which even includes a three-digit binary display. Then using the simple plastic components, it could be programmed to add and subtract binary numbers as well as to do a range of more complicated operations such as solve logic riddles. The computer was programmed by moving the small plastic logic tubes to different locations.
