Coloured lithograph. An exact representation of the first aerial ship 'The Eagle', now exhibiting at the grounds of the Aeronautical Society, Victoria Rd. facing Kensington Gardens. This airship was designed in 1834 by the Compte de Lennox to create a direct communication link between the capitals of Europe. It had a 98,700 cubic feet capacity and was in the form of a cylinder with conical ends. The airship proved to be too heavy to lift its own weight and was destroyed by onlookers shortly after completion. Published by Ackermann & Co, London.
