Many are watermarked IPING 1805, three JOHN HALL 1805, one inscribed 1813 another 1819. Assembled from two related stitched volumes of contemporary compilation; lacking original covers. Scenes of all aspects of lead mining above and below ground, the processing of ore, its horse transport, the tools, the life of the lead miners; set possibly in Alston Moor, Northumberland, or Allendale, certainly in the north-east Pennines; with manuscript dissertation 'On the Washing of Lead Ore' and related figured diagram of proposed vessel. 20x25cm.
