Two mural paintings, panels of "Dan Dare" characters and machines with extra-terrestrial backgrounds, by Frank Hampson, 1977. Commissioned by the Science Museum for the Exploration Gallery [displayed 1977-1986]. Each of mixed media: ink, gouache, crayon, col. wash, some pencil, airbrush, upon white ground half inch 6-ply board, overall size 231x146.5x3cm (7ft 6ins x 4ft 9ins). Each display faced for protection with a quarter inch thick perspex sheet. Panel 1: "I don't think Im going to like this planet - it's messy" (Digby). Walking uphill with Dan Dare [lower front space of panel left bare for gallery fake moon rock] from Mekon in Treen city [Mekonta], Sir Hubert and others following from faint coffins far below. [Panel known to The Eagle Society as 'Planetfall'] Panel 2: The "Anastasia" space ship flying against missiles from a Terra Ferry; Dan Dare and female [Miss Peabody?] space walking. [Panel known to The Eagle Society as 'Earth orbit space station activities']
