Silhouette lace picture, balloon motif with steam locomotive below, 1900. Cotton lace; xxxcm. This panel of machine-made lace was produced for the Exposition universelle, Paris, 1900. It shows symbols of modern progress - the railway locomotive, the electric telegraph, electric lights, and a balloon. Design variously attributed to lace manufacturers of Nottingham and Calais. Framed.
