[Stern view]. / [bl] Iosh: Williams D. ; [br] Marshall, P. / 1775. - 1775. - Oil on panel, 50x71.5cm in gilt frame, 68x89.5x7cm. - Perspective painting at 45 degree angle from Navy Board original plans. - Commissioned in 1773 by King George III as part of a series of paired bow and stern paintings of British warship models, one example of each class of ship in the naval establishment. Ship designed by Sir John Williams; built Adams & Co. Deptford, river Thames; launched 23 august 1774; 50 guns 4th Rate; dismasted in a gale and taken captive by the Sagittoire, French fleet 24 September 1778 off American east coast on passage from New York to Savannah
