Lithograph, tinted, a scene at the first erected drinking fountain, lithograph CJ Culliford, published FW Farbrother, 1859. Fountain inscribed with "The first drinking fountain by the M. Drinking Fountain Association, 11 Waterloo Place, SW, The gift of Saml. Gurney MP 1859". - Decoratively sculpted niche, with "Filtered New River Water" spurting from a shell; drunk from a cup attached to a chain. Used by a gentleman, stroking his moustache; about to be used by a lady, wiping cup with handkerchief; humourous captioned discussion on this Between Butcher Boy and Shoe Black; innuendoes implicit. Fountain located at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate Church, Holborn, London
