Sitter unidentified; suggested he could be George Parker, 2nd Earl Macclesfield; or, according to a pencilled inscription in later hand on top stretcher: 'Probably Farquarsson the astronomer'. Portrait of a nobleman, TQL, posing beside shelves of books and instruments including orrery (planetarium), globe and microscope.
