'A series of 'Portraits of Inventors of Machines for the Manufacture of Textile Fabrics with Memoirs' engraved by Thomas Oldham Barlow, and published by Thomas Agnew & Sons with an introduction by Bennet Woodcroft in 1863. Publication was originally intended for 1862 but was delayed by Agnew & Sons due to the Lancashire Cotton Famine.

Bennet Woodcroft was the first curator of the Patent Museum. He developed a 'National Gallery of Portraits of Inventors, Discoverers and Introducers of the Useful Arts’ combining gifts, loans and purchases of portraits. This series of prints was produced from paintings in his collections (or loans).
The painted versions of the portraits formed part of the Bennet Woodcroft Bequest, which was among the founding collections of the Science Museum. (See 1903-212, 1903-213, 1903-229, 1903-230, 1903-232, 1921-1077, 1921-1078, 1921-1079).
