This print of John Hunter (1728-1793), a Scottish surgeon and anatomist, is based on Sir Joshua Reynolds’ painting of 1789. Hunter built up a vast and varied collection of both human and animal anatomical specimens. This collection now forms the basis of the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.
