Photograph, albumen, on card of Bennet Woodcroft F.R.S. (c1803-1879), textile manufacturer, pioneer of marine propulsion and patent reform, by Downer Frederick, Watford (1775-1852?), c.1868-9, overall 32.5x27cm., image 29.7x24.8cm. Identified by Flack J.F. (of the Patent Office) in 1903. Ink inscription under image, Inked comment on verso, signed Downer in plate, t.r.; Stamped, b.l. Corners damaged from former overmount. Portrait, TQL seated to R. reading a book; apparatus on table beside L; sporting beard and flap tie.
