Print: A sure and convenient machine for drawing silhouettes / J. [T?] Holloway Direxit, n.d. [c.1790? ]. Engraving, line, some stipple; image 20.8x16.9cm, platemark 27.3x20.3cm, on sheet 34 x 27.3cm. Five lines text engraved at top of plate between title and image: 'This is the Character I would assign ... the Nose is improved in the silhouette, it expresses more Ingenuity.' Depicts a young woman seated in a chair, holding the r. arm which is in the form of a raised easel, held by two bars locked to the l. arm. A man stands behind the easel, drawing the silhouette formed from the light of a candle on a stand to R. which throws shadows of the woman's head to the back of the easel surface
