Painting. An industrial scene. / Edmund Kregczy (1855-1916), 1895. Oil on canvas; 100x150cm. Showing a factory complex and works, coal, wagon ways and locomotive; workers' housing; predominantly women working with coal and wagons; smoking tall chimneys as centre feature; possibly an ironworks in northern or eastern Europe. Signed indistinctly Ed_d Kregczy. Identified as the Josef-mine owned by the Zwierzina family in Mährisch-Ostrau, (Ostrava, Czech Republic) c. 1895. Kregczy's mother, Rosa Zwierzina, was one of the owners of the company, which employed 28 women. Wagon way runs from the Josef-mine to the Kaiser Ferdinand Nordbahn.
