Silver telescopic ear trumpet hearing aid, in two section, hallmarked London, 1814.

People who were hard of hearing used ear trumpets. They are simple devices. The curved trumpet end amplified sounds while the other end was placed in the ear. This silver example is shortened by removing the end piece. Pieces can be added to lengthen it. The design was described as being telescopic.
