Large domestic tin-glazed earthenware storage jar bearing arms of 63rd Grand Master of Knights of St. John of Malta, probably Italian, dated 1714

Painted on to this large earthenware storage jar is the emblem of Ramon Perrellos y Roccaful (1637-1720), 63rd Grand Master of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem (now the Knights Hospitaller) from 1697-1720. The Knights of St John of Jerusalem was founded in the 1000s to protect pilgrims and care for the sick. The jar would have been used in the Order’s hospital and infirmary.
