Earthenware pharmacy jar with blue "Delft" glazing, English, 1601-1651

Simple tin-glazed storage pots like this one were common in the early 1600s, especially in the Netherlands and England. This example has Delft blue glazing, a popular style of the period. The rim of the jar would originally have been covered with parchment secured with string to protect the contents.
