Trematode cyst-infected Pacific Treefrog (Hyla regilla) preserved in plastic, with supernumerary limbs, from La Pine, Deschutes County, Oregon. Prepared by Hartwick College, Oneonta, New York, 1998-1999. This 'category I' deformity (polymelia) is believed to be caused by the trematode cyst infection. The cartilage is stained blue and calcified bones in red (see note).

Subadult Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) with a missing hind limb, from Fort Edward, Washington County, New York, 1998-9. This 'category II' deformity is belived to be caused mainly by attempted predation. The cartilage is stained blue and calcified bones in red.
