Medal, the Nobel Prize for Physics, awarded to George Paget Thomson, 1937. Gold; 66mm diameter, 5mm ht, in red leather gilt trim case 13.5x13.5x2.2cm. Weight 197.7g. obverse: relief profile of Alfred Nobel, designed and signed by Erik Lindberg 1902. reverse: muses of nature and science; plaque to G.P. Thomson MCMXXXVII [1937]. rim: stamped GULD 1937. The prize was awarded by the Nobel Institute Stockholm, and shared by Thomson with Clinton Joseph Davisson USA, "for their experimental discovery of the diffraction of electrons by crystals"
