Medal, the Hughes Medal [of the Royal Society, London], awarded to George Paget Thomson [1939]. Silver gilt; 58mm diameter, 6mm ht, in blue velvet case 10.2x10.2x2.5cm. Weight 91.70g. obverse: David Edward Hvghes b.16 May 1830 d. 19 Jan 1900; relief profile Head to R, initialled IHMF. reverse: relief eagle with ?thunderbolt; inscription in classical Greek. rim legend: Prof. George Paget Thomson, F.R.S. ; stamped GILT
